To accomodate several grade changes, we did not align our retaining walls on both sides of the stairway, but we placed a destination for sitting alongside the steps to keep this change from being noticed. Sidewalk stone has a raised curb next to the dirt for a footrest, and to keep you herded toward the bench while walking.
